Carpe Aevum
G L Schaefer

G.L. Schaefer has been the musical soul behind Carpe Aevum since the beginning. With intense riff writing and complex solos in the vein of Joe Satriani, Al DiMeola, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Jimmy Page, John Scofield, and Eric Clapton, his playing drives home the professionalism that comes with being a great musician. What's more obvious when you listen to him play, is how much emotion G.L. pours into the sound he creates. Carpe Aevum would not exist without him leading the way instrumentally.

From G.L. Schaefer: For all those wanting to know, I play a Black Gibson SG Gothic through Line 6 amplification and use my own Dunlop Wah for further effects. I would suggest that if you haven't already, check out the following five albums: 1) Symphony X "V", 2) Led Zeppelin "Zeppelin I", 3) Dream Theater "Images and Words", 4) Robert Johnson "The Complete Recordings", and 5) Yes "Close to the Edge"

Richard Giorgi

Although Richard Giorgi III only recently became an official member of Carpe Aevum, his contributions to the band have been immense in the past. Filling in as an emergency drummer the week before a local battle of the bands in 2004, Giorgi played a near flawless set with the group and has been here ever since. His latest contributions can be heard on the up-and-coming live album "Eternity in New York: Carpe Aevum plays Smash Studios." Rich's masterful percussive progressions and quick double-pedal work gives Carpe Aevum an intensity and presence that every metal band aspires for. The influence of famed drummers Mike Portnoy, John Bonham, Neil Peart, Dave Lombardo, Steve Gadd, Terry Bozzio, Carl Palmer and Buddy Rich is prominant and executed immaculately. The entire Carpe Aevum community is glad to have him as a member and a friend.

From the Mind of Richard Eugene "Lucifer" Giorgi: Well, here are the five albums I think you should listen to: 1) Dream Theater "Images and Words", 2) Rush "2112", 3) Iron Maiden "Number of the Beast", 4) Led Zeppelin "Zeppelin II", 5) Queensryche "Rage for Order". As for gear, I play a Tama kit with Sabian Cymbals, DW pedals and hi-hats, and an assortment of latin percussion equiptment.

Steve Sklar

According to the mere mortals, the legendary Steve Sklar was born in 1986 with a bass in his hand. While their myths may be entertaining, this is actually not the case. After taking up piano at age nine, Steve discovered the bass in what the mortals call “middle school” and the rest is glorious history. Influenced by such masters as Steve Harris, Jaco Pastorius, and Victor Wooten, Sklar's legendary style is one of heavy fingerstyle picking and majestic slapping. The saintly equipment that brings Steve's magnificent sound waves to the masses consist of a Spector Euro 4, Ampeg B2r, and Hartke 2100 cab.

Steve Sklar says: Just listen to these albums or I'll disappear into oblivion: Black Sabbath "We Sold Our Souls for Rock and Roll," Symphony X "The Odyssey," Iron Maiden "Piece of Mind and Iron Maiden," Dream Theater "Metropolis II: Scenes From a Memory," and Queensryche "Operation Mindcrime."

Sebastian Cruz

Sebastian Cruz, having no real musical talent, is the vocalist and front man for Carpe Aevum. His lyrics have a the classic stroytelling style of the folk artists of the 1960's while still embracing the symbolic, thought-provoking writing approach synonomous with the progressive music genre. Though he emulates the greats of high tenor vocals like Rob Halford, Bruce Dickenson, Geoff Tate, Ronnie James Dio, and James LaBrie, Cruz's real strength lies in smoothe low tones and a powerful mid-range, more reminiscent of Tom Englund, Mike Baker, Daniel Gildenlöw, Rod Tyler or Russel Allen.

Sebastian Cruz Says: Listen to these albums, NOW! 1) Stratovarius "Visions", 2) Shadow Gallery "Carved in Stone", 3) Iron Maiden "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", 4) Queensryche "Operation Mindcrime", 5) Dream Theater "Metropolis II: Scenes from a Memory".
